Real-life Dr Doolittle James Mason
Jan 06, 2009 - Birmingham, England, United Kingdom - Real-life Dr Doolittle 16-year-old James Mason got more than he bargained for when he started up an animal sanctuary for abandoned pets. When word spread about Mason's enterprise, he ended up looking after more than 300 animals. Thanks to donations from around the world, MAson was able to pay hefty food and vet bills which came to 4,000 PBS. He has been sent donations from as far away as America, Australia and 2,000 PBS from an animal welfare charity in the Far East. James said: ''I had no idea it would get that big, but it has been fantastic. I've managed to find homes for hundreds of animals, it's hard work but rewarding and I expect a few more to arrive in 2009. I hate the idea of pets being abandoned, and advise anyone thinking of getting a pet to be absolutely sure they can look after them properly.'' James created the sanctuary for 90 unwanted pets at his family's farm in Ravenstone, Leicestershire in England. James has now landed his dream job as an apprentice greyhound handler and carer at Brook Farm Kennels, Swannington. He said: ''I'm studying part-time at university for a small animal care qualification and I want to become a licensed racing greyhound handler and trainer
