DENVER - DECEMBER 10: (EDITORS NOTE: Image has been shot in black and white. Color version not available.) Former U.S. Navy Seal Jason Miller, 37, arrives to a job fair for veterans on December 10, 2009 in Denver, Colorado. Miller, who was a Special Forces Lt. Commander serving from 1995-2004, was laid off his civilian job as a construction project manager in April 2009. He said he came to the job fair hoping to get a job in security, but eventuallywants to work for the U.S. Department of Defense. According to the U.S. Department of Labor, the unemployment rate for veterans is more than two percent higher than the national average, with the highest rate among younger veterans from the Iraq and Afghan wars. The event, called the "Hire Vets First Job Fair," was organized by the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment and brought dozens of employers together with veterans from throughout the greater Denver area.
