A U.N. body best known for protecting tigers and elephants will take aim at the world's overfished oceans, considering proposals to regulate the shark trade and ban the export of a tuna species prized by sushi lovers, in a meeting starting Saturday in Doha. Many Asian countries along with some Latin American and African countries are expected to come out against proposals by the United States and other countries to regulate the trade of at least four shark species including scalloped hammerhead and whitetip. These shark species have seen their numbers drop dramatically since the 1980s, due to rising demand for shark fin soup especially among China's nouveau rich and for fish and chips in Europe.
