Artists and musicians auditioned to be selected to recieve permits to play in New York City's subway system, as part of the MTA Music Under New York program which began in 1985. At present more than 100 individual performers and ensembles participate in over 150 weekly performances in 25 locations. 55 performers were selected for today's auditions from over 250 applicants, all competing for approximately 25 new positions.
