Ahead of last day in office, Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick's replaced on Detroit Zoo water tower
Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick's name no longer is in its prominent place at the Detroit Zoo.
A crew on Tuesday replaced his name on the water tower at the zoo in the Detroit suburb of Royal Oak with the words "A Zoo Worth Keeping... Thanks!"
That's a reference to a special property tax approved by Detroit-area voters in August for the zoo.
The Democratic mayor's name is on signs throughout Detroit, but its placement on the water tower was one of the most visible in the city.
Kilpatrick pleaded guilty this month to obstruction of justice, and prosecutors agreed to allow him to stay at City Hall through Thursday.
The City Council president, Ken Cockrel Jr., will become mayor.
